Traffic and travel (South Tyneside)
A small Primary School in South Tyneside located on a busy road. A small group of young students wanted to make the surrounding school area more pedestrianised as it is very busy during peak times and dangerous for other students coming to school.

The group applied for a £1000 grant through the Big Boost programme to carry out their idea. The group wanted to buy a bike shed where students can keep their bikes safely and securely. They also wanted the school to put students through their cycle proficiency course so they are aware of the basic safety whilst riding their cycles to school and purchase some spare bikes for students who don't have a bicycle. The group looked for support from parents to stop using their cars and encourage their sons/ daughters to walk/ cycle to school.
The project will be encouraging a sustainable mode of travel whilst also being environmentally friendly.
